Sylvaner is a white grape variety with a long history, primarily associated with Germany, Alsace, Slovenia, Croatia and Northern Italy. Thought to have originated in Austria, it thrives in cooler climates and is known for its refreshing acidity and subtle flavours. Sylvaner wines are typically light to medium-bodied, offering notes of green apple, citrus, and fresh herbs, with occasional hints of pear. In Slovenia, it produces dry, minerally wines with excellent food-pairing potential; Sylvaner pairs well with seafood, light salads, asparagus, and soft cheeses, making it a versatile choice for delicate dishes.
