Press Reviews

For those who really want to give their wine rack a proper spring clean, coming up with something unusual to start the season, a fascinating Croatian Graševina.

Here’s different – Croatian white made from Graševina (aka welsch riesling or Slovenia’s laski rizling) to an unusually high standard for this grape; there’s a slightly floral aroma of honeysuckle, and a fruit cocktail of apricot, quince and yellow pear. Ends dry; pair it with a light chicken dish and broad beans.
Susy Atkins, The Daily Telegraph, 3rd March 2022

Just so peachy, I still can’t believe it is under £10

Graševina is the grape variety, and it covers about 22% of the vineyard area in Croatia, it is pretty popular. The winery itself was founded by Cistercian monks in 1232 AD. All of that history for £9.95 for a grape variety that you probably have not tasted, but you should. Really nice and citrussy. It is one of those ‘grab you and pull you into the glass’ wines, that immediately makes me want to shriek and find a platter of prawns to throw over myself. It is great – textural, upbeat, refreshing, a little twist of something pineappley in there, it just amazes me that you can find this level of quality, this much character, this much refreshment for under a tenner, just by buying online. You’ve got to do it, get on the website and order yourself a case, they’re going to deliver it to your door. It’s incredible. It is like the wine pixies know where you live!

Floral, lightly oaked, spiced quince white made from the Croatian graševina grape.
Jane MacQuitty, The Times, 22nd January 2022

There’s nothing “new” about Croatian wines, but there has been a change of attitude towards them among British wine importers. That’s good news for fans of juicy, fresh, aromatically vivacious white wines such as this, made from the grasevina grape (AKA welsch riesling).
