2022 was a hot and dry vintage for much of Europe and this was no different in the Mâconnais. The year began with average temperatures, high levels of sunshine, and lower levels of rainfall before a cold snap early in April had growers on frost alert. Flowering arrived two weeks early in mid-May, as slightly elevated temperatures became much warmer as Spring moved into Summer, and there were reports of highs of 43.5°C in August. Drought was a serious issue throughout the vintage, with only light showers in June, thunderstorms toward the end of the month (along with hail), and a drop more mid-August. Naturally this was an early harvest, and the dry conditions gave very healthy fruit of excellent concentration, with decent yields. Growers are broadly very pleased with the vintage, while the cooler sites and those vineyards with more clay in the soils have produced some very high-quality wines indeed.
