This could easily be mistaken for an Australian Cabernet, it is minty on the nose and palate with good ripe fruit and great balance. The finish has an attractive note of cedar.

Press Review

"Young and fresh, with aromas and flavours of ripe blackcurrants fruit, cassis and spicey oak. Ripe tannins give this wine a firm and rich mouthfeel, with a lasting finish. A core of rich blackcurrants, black plums with a savoury overlay, meat extract, white pepper and mixed spice. The velvety texture is a result of maturation and fine-textured tannins. Complex, layered and well crafted."

Press reviews

"The Great British Bake Off is back, or so my wife and daughter tell me (at length) every Wednesday morning. And while I don’t find strangers baking replicas of the Forth Bridge out of doughnuts riveting, I do have a keen interest in showstoppers, and here are four showstopping wines that are in line for ‘Star Drinker’…No Bake Off is complete without a handshake, and this must go to the Journey’s End V4 Cabernet 2018 (Tanners £18.50). Varietal Cabernet can so easily be tart and awkward, but this is generous, full, plump and multilayered. Invitingly deeply coloured, the nose isn’t aggressive, rather it’s multi-layered and subtle, with cherries, plums, cassis, bitter chocolate and toast rising languidly from the glass. These notes are reflected on the silken palate, where touches of sandalwood, green pepper and earth add yet more interest. A stunning achievement, my first case is on the way."

Journey's End

The Gabb family’s journey, from rural Shropshire to leading South African wine producers, began 25 years ago and is reaching new heights.

The stunning vineyards on the Journey's End estate were purchased and replanted by Shropshire resident Roger Gabb in 1996. With son Rollo now at the helm the consistently strong run of top wine awards is testament to its status as one of South Africa’s most premium wine estates. This beautiful location in the Helderberg Basin near Sir Lowry’s Pass benefits from south-facing slopes and cool coastal breezes. The Schaapenberg Terroir with its sea-facing slopes has drawn comparisons with some of Bordeaux’s best with some exceptional wines emerging from the area. The completion of a brand new, state-of-the-art boutique winery set in the heart of the vineyards means winemakers Leon Esterhuizen and Mike Dawson have all they need to produce their premium top quality wine. There is also a great belief in minimal intervention in the vineyards, allowing nature to do her best at expressing the unique terroir. The estate has impressive ethical and sustainability credentials. It is fully solar powered and Fairtrade certified, and recently received recognition for its commitment to this with an Ethical Company of the Year Award. In 2020 The Journey’s End Foundation was set up to provide meals to, and support, the local community and now provides over 13,000 meals per week.
