CVNE

Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE) stands among Rioja’s most storied family estates. Founded in 1879 by brothers Raimundo and Eusebio Real de Asúa alongside oenologist Isidro Corcuera del Campo, CVNE set roots in Haro’s historic Barrio de la Estación, its stone-and-tile cellars still defining the town’s footprint today.

Now in its fifth generation of family leadership, CVNE has grown into one of Spain’s largest vineyard owners, tending nearly 1,000 ha across Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa – supplying over half of its grape needs in- house and ensuring impeccable quality from vine to bottle. This estate-driven model underpins every cuvée, marrying traditional Rioja character with exacting modern standards. At CVNE, the heart of the range are its Reservas and Gran Reservas. After fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks, these wines are aged for up to 24 months in a carefully balanced mix of French and American oak barrels – American casks imparting vanilla and spice notes, while French oak lends structure and finesse to the wines. A further two to three years in bottle before release allows these wines to reveal layers of leather, cedar and dried fruit, with the Gran Reservas capable long‐term cellaring. Their Imperial label is for Gran Reservas produced only in exceptional vintages, showcasing artisanal winemaking within CVNE’s original 19th-century walls. Viña Real and Viñedos del Contino explore the distinct terroirs of Rioja Alavesa, while newer acquisitions like Virgen del Galir (Valdeorras) and Bela (Ribera del Duero) expand CVNE’s reach into Spain’s other great appellations.
