Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer is a variety that produces some of the most aromatic and evocative wines about. Its home is Alsace, where it produces full flavour wines with heady aromas and flavours of rose petals, lychees and Turkish delight. It can also be found in North-East Italy (as Traminer Aromatico) and Spain’s Penedès region. In the New World, it can be problematic as most countries are too warm to do it justice; it can easily produce hot, alcoholic wines. Plantings are small in New Zealand. There are some good examples from Chile where they can plant it at altitude to bring much-needed freshness to the wines.
